Once hatched, dragons must be placed either into a habitat or into the Hibernation Cave. Different types of habitats exist for each different element, and a dragon must be placed into a habitat that corresponds with its own element. Dragons with more than one element can be placed in any habitat that is for one of their elements.
Every habitat can hold a specific number of dragons, and can accumulate a certain quantity of dragoncash or gems. A habitat that has reached maximum capacity cannot accumulate any more dragoncash or gems until emptied by a player. Upgrades are available for basic habitats, as well as for the sun, moon, rainbow, olympus, seasonal, apocalypse, treasure, snowflake, monolith, aura, chrysalis and the dream habitats, that allow them to hold more dragons and accumulate higher amounts of dragoncash.

Habitat Building, Upgrading, and Storing
Building Habitats
All habitats have build times. Depending on which habitat is being built, the build time may be instant, take minutes, take hours, or take a day, or longer. Build times can be sped up by using gems or using the powers of Kairos to reduce the build time.
Build times begin once a habitat is placed after purchasing from the market. Build times may be different if the habitat is purchased from an event market during an event or from the regular in-game market. For example, purchasing the habitat from the event market may have an instant build time.
Dragons are unable to be placed into a habitat until after the habitat is fully built.
Upgrading Habitats
For habitats that can be upgraded, it is also possible to buy a larger habitat, wait until it is finished being built and then sell the smaller habitat after moving any dragons. It costs the same to upgrade a habitat as it does to buy a larger habitat from a market. If the maximum number of habitats are in a park this is not an option. During an upgrade, the dragons in the habitat generate income, but in the Hibernation Cave they do not.
Storing Habitats
- Main article: Storage Tower
For habitats that can be stored, it is possible to use the Storage Tower to store empty habitats.
Habitats which count towards the maximum habitat limit within the park will still count towards the park habitat limit while the habitats are stored.
Using the "footprints" button within the Storage Tower will sort the habitats separately from other content.
Maximum Habitats Per Level
Reward habitats earned in the Light and Dark events, the Magic Egg Hunt, the Firefly Festival, and the Season of Goodies do not count towards the maximum amount of habitats.
Other habitats purchased through an event market during an event also do not count toward the maximum amount of habitats. As at the end of November 2023, there are 147 Habitats that have maximums that do not count towards your park limit, but can be purchased through special Events or with Gems. 10 Aura Habitat - 5 Celestial Habitat - 7 Chrysalis Habitat - 4 Crystalline Habitat - 5 Dark Reward Habitat - 3 Gemstone Reward Habitat - 7 Harmonious Habitat - 10 Hidden Habitat - 5 Light Reward Habitat - 6 Melody Habitat - 5 Meridiem Habitat - 5 Monolith Reward Habitat - 5 Olympus Reward Habitat - 12 Omnitat / Large Omnitat - 12 Ornamental Habitat - 9 Paradise Habitat - 4 Snowflake Reward Habitat - 13 Spooky Habitat - 12 Surface Habitat - 8 Zodiac Habitat
