Use of Badges[]

A badge can be used as a functional way of expressing freindship, championship, or just for goofing around. The most common use of badges, is to make a Friend badge.

Where do I make my badge? ~Sandbox[]

Before you make a badge, it might be a good idea to create a sandbox. Here is how:

Instead of using the public Test page you can create your personal Sandbox in which to learn how to use the Wiki and to work on articles you wish to create and contribute to the Wiki.

As a first step, you should have chosen a user name and logged in.

Whenever you are logged in, your user name appears at the top of any page on the Wiki.

Click on your user name to visit your personal User page, and then click on the Edit tab.

You may now provide biographical or other information about yourself and your interests.

But in order to create a sandbox, write this link code on the Edit screen: /Sandbox. When you finish editing your User page, click on the Save button at the bottom of the Edit screen and you will be returned to your User page where your Sandbox link will be at the top of your User page. From then on, you may at any time click on that link to go to your personal Sandbox and use it for learning Wiki and for working on articles you want to create and contribute to the Wiki.

Where do I make my badge?~Template[]

Templates can be very powerful, but also sometimes very complicated. It often helps to start by creating the simplest possible kind of template, and then experimenting from there.

  • Go to the search bar an type in: Template:Example (you can use any name you chose)
  • The first result should be a blank template page, press on it and press create
  • Type in 'Hello World' (NOTE: This is only for the first time when you are learning how to operate a tepmlate)
  • From now on, if you would like to use a template, you just have to type in, Without the spaces:
{{Example}}

You've successfully created and used a template! Now you can change the content of your template and add it to more pages to make it more useful for your wiki.

Making the Badge~Glow Header[]

Inside the template that you created within your sandbox (which should have been written in red letters) do the following:

{ {Template:Glow Header

^That line tells the browser that this template is a glow header. The badge will have a glowing header!?? (NOTE: The curvy brackets are places WITHOUT a space)

|Color 1 = Blue

^That line will tell the browser what the outline of the badge will be.

|Color 2 = green

^That line will tell the browser what the main color (which takes up about 75% of the badge, starting from the bottom, going up) will be.

|Color 3 = white

^That line will tell the browser what the secondary color would be. (this takes up the remaing, top, 25% of the badge)

|EXAMPLE TEXT HERE

^That line will tell the browser what to say, unless specified (which is shown bello) the text will be in white.

|Glow = gold

^That line tells the browser what the glowing part of the header will be.

} }

^That line (when used without spaces) tells the browser that this template is finished.

Without the embeded notes, this will read:

{ {Template:Glow Header
|Color 1 = Blue
|Color 2 = green
|Color 3 = white
|EXAMPLE TEXT HERE
|Glow = gold
} }

^That (without the spaces) looks like:

EXAMPLE TEXT HERE

Want to Add Pictures?[]

{ {Template:Glow Header
|Color 1 = Blue
|Color 2 = green
|Color 3 = white
|EXAMPLE TEXT HERE
|Glow = gold
} }

^That works fine, but a real badge, need a bit more lfe. Most people like to add a picture to their badge.

You can use the same exact coding, and only need to tweak it a tiny bit. Lets take what we have, and add a bit to it. Let's say you want to add pictures of the Plant Dragon in its baby and adult stages.

First you must locate the pictures you want. In this case, we are looking for:

[ [File:PlantDragonBaby.png] ]

and

[ [File:PlantDragonAdult.png] ]

Let's also say that you want these pictures on either end of the text, so this is waht you need to add in? underlined text:

{ {Template:Glow Header
|Color 1 = Blue
|Color 2 = green
|Color 3 = white
|[ [File:PlantDragonBaby.png] ] EXAMPLE TEXT HERE [ [File:PlantDragonAdult.png] ]
|Glow = gold
} }

That should create (when you remove the? underline and the spacing) this:

PlantDragonBaby EXAMPLE TEXT HERE PlantDragonAdult

However, the dragons in that image look a bit too large. For this reason, you might choose to change the size of the images to a smaller, more appropriate one to make the badge 'flow'. Using the same coding, with all of the changes in? underlined text:

{ {Template:Glow Header
|Color 1 = Blue
|Color 2 = green
|Color 3 = white
|[ [File:PlantDragonBaby.png|75px] ] EXAMPLE TEXT HERE [ [File:PlantDragonAdult.png|75px] ]
|Glow = gold
} }

Without the spacing, this should give you:

PlantDragonBaby EXAMPLE TEXT HERE PlantDragonAdult

Without any add on's[]

Just to clarify, without any example images or example colors, or if you would like to post any badge with images of a certain size, here is the coding (Again, take out the spacing):

{ {Template:Glow Header
|Color 1 = BORDER COLOR HERE
|Color 2 = MAIN COLOR HERE
|Color 3 = SECONDARY COLOR HERE
|[ [PICTURE HERE| SIZE HERE px] ]EXAMPLE TEXT HERE [ [PICTURE 2 HERE | SIZE HERE px ] ]
|Glow = GLOW COLOR HERE
} }

Thank you![]
